The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), the cricket governing body, on Saturday, unveiled its calendar for 2025.
As per the calendar, Nepali men’s senior team will be busy abroad while the women’s team will also be equally busy throughout the year.
“This year will be a busy one for the women’s team,” CAN Secretary Paras Khadka said. “As we have been saying, we are doing our best to develop women’s cricket further.”
The calendar shows that the women’s senior team, which is currently in Uganda for a quadrangular series including Namibia and Hong Kong, will tour Bhutan in April.
They will then travel to Thailand for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers in May and Women’s Emerging Team Asia Cup in June. Malaysia has also confirmed a tri-series with Nepal and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in October while CAN will host a pentangular series in December inviting Uganda, Namibia, the UAE and the Netherlands.
CAN is also organising a 50-over-format Women’s Elite Cup for the first time, which has been slated for October.
“We have also proposed that the Sri Lankan counterparts have the women’s team there in October. Before that, the men’s team’s tour to Sri Lanka has been confirmed for July,” said Khadka, who is also a former captain of the senior men’s team.
The men’s tour to Sri Lanka will be a preparation camp for the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers, which will be hosted by Oman in October. The team is also visiting India, Australia and the UAE in August and September to prepare for the qualifiers.
“Our main priority for this year is to qualify for the World Cup and get as many points as possible in the CWC League 2,” said Khadka.
Nepal is visiting Scotland for a CWC League 2 (2024-27) tri-series including the Netherlands in June.
The calendar also reveals that the release as well as retain process of players and a mini auction for the second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) will be held in June and August, respectively.
“The date for the second NPL will be revealed once it is accepted by the International Cricket Council (ICC), which will also be sanctioning several processes for the tournament,” Khadka added.
Nevertheless, CAN is also prepared to organise a National School Championship targeting SEE-graduate students in May. “We need to invest more in the grassroots. We are coordinating with district and provincial bodies alongside other stakeholders to promote cricket across the country,” said Khadka.
