In January 2018, a year-long project—52 Artists 52 Actions—was launched to highlight artistic practices across Asia. The objective is to engage 52 artists and collectives, from a wide spectrum of ethnicities and cultural backgrounds, to stage “actions” in locations across the region. The works are then documented and shared with global audiences via online mediums such as Instagram.

Every week, a different artist from a different region drives the project, “generating a continuously unfolding archive of creative responses to political and social issues central to each unique context.”  The participating artists are from South Asia, East Asia, Southeast Asia, West Asia and the Pacific.

This week, Nepali artist and activist Ashmina Ranjit is driving the project at NexUs Culture Nepal in Lalitpur.

“My action is a series of collaborative artivism events from feminist and intersectional perspectives,” says Ranjit in her artist statement. Earlier this week Ranjit led a workshop on creating art with children, then on Tuesday, an open mic at NexUs hosted feminist artists that saw performances and a panel discussion.

On Thursday, Ranjit is hosting a feminist movie marathon called Reclaim the Night. The marathon, which will screen films such as Soongava, Dance of The Orchids; Inspirational People from Nepal; and Sita Sings the Blues, will start and 7pm and will go on till midnight.
