Panchayat was awarded the Special Film honour by Nepal’s Film Development Board earlier this year. Likewise, the film had also won the best foreign language film at the San Franscisco Film Festival in the US.
“We are taking the film overseas,” Panchayat’s producer, Sushant Kumar Shrestha, said in a statement. According to producers, the film will be screened at Asian Town Cinema Hall in Qatar on August 3; the proceeds from the screening will go to establishing an ambulance service in Makwanpur district.
Likewise, the film will be screened in Australia on August 12; the revenue from the Australia screening will also be used for a social cause, producers said.
The film will also be screened in various venues in UAE to support Chepang children in Chitwan.
Previously, the film was screened in the US and Japan. The film released in Nepal in March this year.
Written and directed by Shivam Adhikari, Panchayat features actors Saroj Khanal, Nita Dhungana, Rupa Rana, and Janhawi Basnet in the lead roles.
