This will be the first time a Nepali film is being screened at the Scottish Parliament and the second time for the film to be shown at a parliamentary session—having already done so last year at the British parliament. Deputy Prime Minister of Scotland John Swinney is slated as chief guest for the event.
According to director, Ganesh Pandey, the opportunity to show the film at the parliament venue came about through the efforts of Alan Mercel-Sanca, director of the UK-Nepal Friendship Society, and John Lamb from the Little Sherpa Foundation. “Since this is the first time a Nepali film is to be afforded such a venue, it is a matter of pride for all Nepalis,” Pandey said.
Bhagyale Bachekaharu recounts some of the most remarkable stories of surviving the 2015 quakes. Since its release in December, 2015, the film has been dubbed in 13 languages, won 15 international awards and has been shown in over 32 countries. Camera work for the film was done by Binod Bista, editing by Kumar Shah, and music by Jugal Dangol. Sapana Sakkya and Deepak Koirala co-wrote the film while American film artist, Josiah Hooper is credited as the chief editor.
