The competition is being organised by the Sattya Media Art Collective in association with Civil Mall and was conceived as part of a larger Art Mela event that will also feature live music, robots built by creative collective, Karkhana, as well as painting lessons by the House of Palettes.
The competition will feature 14 participants and will be held in two parts—one for ‘adults’ and a separate one for participants who are 15 and under. According to organisers, the participants will range from professional painters, hobbyists, as well as general enthusiasts. As the competition is an open one, the selection of applicants was based on their unique individual approaches to art rather than their facility at painting. Artists Kailash K Shrestha and Anil Shahi will be the two judges for the event.
All painting materials will be provided by the organisers. Upon being given a topic to paint on, participants are expected to complete their pieces within 25 minutes and while in full view of audiences. The organisers say that they hope the time limit and the added pressure of being under public scrutiny will make for a lively show. Nevertheless, the event provides a viable platform for painters and interested parties to showcase their work, network, and perhaps even to sell their pieces.
The competition starts 2 pm onwards.
