The tale of Balbhadra Kunwar as the commander of the Gurkha Army at the Nalapani fort and his army’s contribution in the conflict with the British East India Company, often found in history books, is now being adapted into a film titled Nalapani.
Based on the book Bir Balbhadra Kunwar, penned by Dhan Bahadur Kunwar, the story is being adapted into the silver screen by director Rimesh Adhikary.
Nalapani will feature real-life personnel from the Nepal army. “We want to portray the bravery of the Gurkhas accurately, so we made the decision to use real army personnel,” Adhikary said, “War scenes are predominant in the film, hence the physical aptitude of the actors plays a crucial factor.”
“It would be tedious for the hundreds of actors to undergo a physical transformation necessary for the movie. So we are choosing actors from Nepal Army who will fit in these roles. The lead roles, however, is reserved for professional actors,”he added.
The auditions of the interested Nepal army personnel was concluded recently.
