Bringing modern-day Buddhism to canvas
The third edition of the painting exhibition Art without Borders will open at the Newa Chen Art Gallery in Patan on Saturday.
The third edition of the painting exhibition Art without Borders will open at the Newa Chen Art Gallery in Patan on Saturday. The exhibition, themed Buddhism in Modern Times, features works by four Nepali artists—Pramila Bajracharya, Nar Bahadur BK, Namrata Singh, Krishna Dangol and Sarita Dangol—and Japanese artist Tanaka Akiko.
The paintings to be showcased at the exhibit will in one way or another be related to Buddhism and the teachings of Siddhartha Gautam. The exhibit will celebrate the core values of Buddhism as philosophy.
“This exhibition tries to remind one about the teacher who talked about being selfless so many years ago. Once we become selfless, we can only feel the oneness we share as living beings, on this blue planet, breathing the same air, surpassing all boundaries of faith, colour and history,” Astha Prabha Tuladhar, proprieter of organisers Women for Women, said.
“It is great that art is a medium that allows us to surpass all limits, regulations and obligations we associate with to live in what we call the human society and takes us to imaginary worlds. It is a truly wonderful thing that freedom of expression in art is now valued around the world,” she added.
The exhibition will run through August 16.
