A poetry workshop, titled Poetry in Extremis, took place at Quixote’s Cove, in Jawalakhel, on Saturday. The workshop saw participants engage in discussions on poems by international poets.
The workshop was mentored by Ellie Walsh, Contributing Associate Editor at Coldnoon Travel Poetics Journal, where she runs a column focused on South Asian literature.
During the event, poems such as Ugly by Warsan Shire, Nothing’s Changed by Tatamkhulu Afrika, Barbie Doll by Marge Pierry, The Colonel by Carolyn Forché and Two Scavengers in a Truck, Two Beautiful People in a Mercedes by Lawrence Ferlinghetti were recited and subsequently discussed.
During the three-hour long session the discussions were rooted in topics such as feminism, body-shaming, rebellion, government, class, love and war. The participants also received brief tips and suggestions from Walsh on how to write moving and touching poems.
The two-day workshop will conclude on December 4.
