Adapted and directed by the veteran litterateur Greta Rana, the play will mark the 200th anniversary of the establishment of Anglo-Nepal relationship.
The play is being co-directed by noted theatre actors Divya Dev and Akanchha Karki, who also feature as lead characters in the play. The play also features household names of Nepali theatre such as Aashant Sharma, Saroj Aryal, Gunjan Dixit, and Utpal Jha.
“We are staging this play to establish New Shakespearewallahs, under Nepal-Britain Society, to bring Shakespeare’s plays to Nepal and to contribute to the education of disadvantaged children from the proceeds of the play,” shares director Greta Rana. Co-director Akanchha Karki adds, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream takes you on a rollercoaster of complex human emotions. Theatre is about losing one’s inhibitions and immersing yourself in the process and we have done so in the course of staging this play.”
Divya Dev, who played the lead in Hamlet, staged in the Capital last April, shares, “Shakespeare is very close to my heart. For an actor like me who loves rich and intense human emotions, Shakespeare is a gold mine that never runs out of its treasures. It is an absolute honour for me to attempt the master’s work with a group of people so talented and very dear to me.”
The play will run through November 20.
