Kathmandu Kora 2015 this Saturday
The annual Kathmandu Kora Cycling Challenge is taking place this year on July 18, Saturday, in three categories: 50 kms, 75 kms and 100 kms.
The ride, which takes place every year on the third Saturday of July, will begin from Patan Durbar Square and weave through different places in the Kathmandu Valley such as Chobar, Kirtipur, Naikap, Bouddha, Balkumari, etc. and end again at Patan Durbar Square. Funds will be raised by pledges made to the cyclists for each kilometre they complete. The funds from this year will be used to reconstruct a health facility in Makaibari VDC in Dolakha and in serving more than 7,000 people in neighbouring VDCs of Lakuri Danda and Magadeurali. The goal for the cycling challenge is set at Rs 2 million.
The funds collected from the Recovery Ride will go into rebuilding the healthcare services in underprivileged areas of Nepal that were severely hit by the April earthquake. The event is being supported by Save the Children, Social Tours and CCNN.
“This is a ride by one person for the health benefits of thousands,” said Sunit Rizal, one of the event’s organisers.
More than 2,400 riders have been slated to take part on Saturday.
