Sonawa, unable to bear her husband’s abuse, takes refuge in the house of Manohar Singh. Singh accepts her happily because, besides desiring her, he also knows her skills when it comes to house-hold chores. But while Sonawa is comparatively happy at Singh’s place, she is torn between her happiness as a housemaid and her obligations as a wife.
Sonawa’s decision creates a ruckus in the village. Although people don’t dare speak openly about it, they are not ready to overlook Sonawa’s audacity. As a solution to this problem, Ghurahu Mahato decides to offer his own daughter to Manohar to assist him during the harvest season in exchange of Sonawa, whom he wants to return to her husband.
But in a desperate attempt to deliver justice, the villagers, including Mahato, forget what Sonawa wants. Repeated pleadings by Sonawa to stay away from her husband fall on deaf ears, and helpless, Sonawa decides to take her own life. In the end, everyone loses, and nobody wins.
The play will run till February 23, everyday at 5 pm, except on Tuesdays
