Poet Viplob Pratik, known for his versatile writing, has unveiled his latest work—a collection of haikus titled ‘Schadenfreude’. The book launch took place on Saturday at Publication Nepa-laya in Kalika Marg, Kathmandu, amidst a gathering of literary enthusiasts.
Onstage, Pratik presented copies of his book to composer Nhyoo Bajracharya, actor Sunil Thapa, and musician Rinchen Yonjan, marking the official launch. He commenced the ceremony by reciting some of his haikus to welcome the attendees.
Haiku, a Japanese literary form, serves as a medium for Pratik to convey various emotions. Explaining the title ‘Schadenfreude’, he described it as “The satisfaction derived from another’s pain.”
With a diverse portfolio spanning poetry, songs, novels, dramas, essays, journalism, cinema, documentaries, translations, and advertisements, Pratik presents his first-ever Haiku collection to readers.
“I became drawn to this genre around 2006,” Pratik shared during the ceremony. He elaborated on how the concise nature of haikus allows for profound expressions, capturing the intricacies of life and philosophy in just three sentences.
Expressing gratitude to Publication Nepa-laya, Pratik commended their commitment to publishing based on content rather than market trends.
The book is divided into eight sections, each exploring themes of love, understanding, sorrow, pain, tears, joy, dreams, and the melody of life.
“We aim to promote this poetry genre alongside other forms of literature,” stated Saijan Maskey, CEO of the publication. Additionally, ‘Schadenfreude’ will be released as an audiobook by Publication Nepa-laya.
