The Magar community celebrated Maghe Sankranti on Wednesday with cultural festivities and traditional performances at Tundikhel in the capital.

Members of the community gathered in large numbers to mark the festival with song, dance and displays of ancestral traditions.

The festival is observed as an occasion for family reunions, meetings between maternal and extended relatives, the exchange of greetings and the sharing of joy. In Magar settlements, it is customary to gather during Maghe and Saune Sankranti (Magh 1 and Shrawan 1 respectively) to celebrate collectively through dancing, performing traditional rituals and strengthening social bonds.

The celebration at Tundikhel reflected these traditions, with participants showcasing indigenous dances and cultural expressions, reaffirming the community’s heritage and collective identity.
