The Nepali Army’s ‘Unification torch rally’, which set off from Gorkha to commemorate the 304th Prithvi Jayanti and National Unity Day, arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday afternoon.
Following the route taken by King Prithvi Narayan Shah during the unification of Nepal, the rally was brought to Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square in Basantapur at 4:50 pm. The march had begun from Gorkha on January 5.

The team travelled through Bharyangbhurung in Dhading, and via Nuwakot and Kakani, before entering the capital.
According to the Nepali Army, the rally will conclude on Sunday with a special programme at the statue of Prithvi Narayan Shah in front of the Singha Durbar complex, the central secretariat of the government.
The government has declared Poush 27 (this year on January 11) a national holiday to mark Prithvi Jayanti.
Prithvi Narayan Shah, then king of Gorkha kingdom, initiated and led Nepal’s unification process three centuries ago.
