Nepal marks 212th birth anniversary of Bhanubhakta Acharya
A morning procession featuring a horse-drawn carriage and traditional music was held in the Capital to honour the revered poet.
Post Report
Various programmes are being held across the country on Sunday to commemorate the 212th birth anniversary of Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya.
Born on July 13, 1814, in Chudiramgha of Tanahun district, Acharya is revered for translating the Sanskrit Ramayan into Nepali, making the epic accessible to a wider Nepali-speaking audience. His translation remains a cornerstone of Nepali literature and earned him the title of ‘Adikavi’ or the first poet.
To mark the occasion, the Nepal Academy organised a morning procession in the Capital. A horse-drawn carriage bearing a portrait of Bhanubhakta was paraded through the city’s thoroughfares, accompanied by traditional folk music. Students also attended the procession carrying different placards.
Here are some glimpses of the procession captured by Post photojournalist Deepak KC.
