Mayor Rai demands federal intervention to address the acute water shortage.Post Report
Harkaraj Rai, mayor of Dharan Sub-metropolitan City, visited Singha Durbar on Tuesday to draw attention to the city’s severe water crisis and urge federal intervention.
Carrying an empty water vessel to show the city’s plight, Rai tried to enter the country’s central administrative complex, but the police confiscated the vessel.
Earlier, Rai had announced plans to visit the Ministry of Water Supply, the Ministry of Finance, and the Prime Minister’s Office to press for immediate federal intervention. After confiscation of the water vessel he visited the Ministry of Water Supply without it.
He wrote on social media, “I plan to enter Singha Durbar around 10am today! I will visit the Ministry of Water Supply, the Ministry of Finance, and the Prime Minister’s Office with a water vessel. The demand is for the federal government to act without discriminating against Dharan and to award the contract this year for the project to bring water from the Saptakoshi River.”
