Police used water cannons and batons against anti-government protesters at Bhatbhateni, Kathmandu on Monday afternoon.
Security personnel intercepted while the rally was marching towards Baluwatar from Kamal Pokhari to protest Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s House dissolution move as part of the ‘Brihat Nagarik Aandolan’ (or Broad Citizens’ Movement).
Writers, poets, artists, intellectuals and members of the public were participating in the rally.
Several protesters sustained injuries as police employed force to stop the protesters from moving towards Baluwatar.
Earlier in the day police had detained around two dozen rights activists from Baluwatar who had gathered to protest the House dissolution move as well as the controversial remarks made by the prime minister and the Cabinet members against the lawyers and the judiciary.
