Life in mountainous parts of Okhaldhunga district has become difficult following a week-long snowfall in the region.
While it is fun for the people from the lower region or the district headquarters to visit the snowy places; it has been harder for the locals in the upper region because of the snowfall. They have been confined to their homes and are having trouble in melting the ice for drinking water.
Up to two feet of snow has piled up in the region, making it hard for the people to move from one place to another.
“It is fun for the first few days. But when it poses threat to your daily survival, it becomes a curse,” said Khil Bahadur Magar, a local from Jantarkhani in the district. “We are also worried that the snowfall beyond our anticipation would destroy our winter crops.”
Vehicular movement along the Okhaldhunga-Solukhumbu road stretch has been difficult for the past four days. Some roads have been completely obstructed. Schools are shut and locals are forced to stay indoors.
