Govt to bear cost of uterine, breast cancer treatment

Minister Women, Children and Social Welfare Kumar Khadka said the free treatment of uterine cancer and breast cancer will endow many a woman with a sense of relief.
“We don’t plan to be popular; our sole purpose is to provide assistance to the suffering women,” said Minister Khadka.
The MoWCSW said it will soon sign memorandums of understanding regarding free treatment for uterine and breast cancer with government hospitals.
The MoWCSW move comes as an additional succour to cancer patients who are assisted with up to Rs 100,000 as treatment cost from the Ministry of Health (MoH).
According to the MoH, 30,000-40,000 new cases of cancer appear in the country every year.
Minister Khadka also announced that the government would do the needful to rescue women subjected to domestic violence from any part of the country and provide required legal assistance to them.
The government will provide training on income generation skills to such women for their economic empowerment, he said.
“This will be done under the President Women’s Development Programme. The programme will start from Kapilvastu on March 6,” said the Minister.
Income-generation skill trainings will be launched in prisons also for female inmates, informed Khadka.
Other plans of the ministry include child-friendly gardens in every district and old-ages home for senior citizens.
