Human rights activists have staged a sit-in in front of the south gate to Singha Durbar on Monday under the "Save Gangamaya's Life" campaign.
Gangamaya Adhikari from Phujel, Gorkha district, is on a hunger strike calling for action against the murderers of her son, Krishna Prasad Adhikari, who was killed in course of the conflict period.
Rights activists started the campaign from Sunday to exert pressure on the government for protecting Gangamaya's life as she has gone on a hunger strike forsaking intravenous liquid and even water since Thursday last week. She is on a hunger strike for the last six years calling for bringing the killers of her son to book.
Human rights activists Charan Prasai, Indra Aryal, Suman Adhikari, Krishna Aryal, Shova Maharjan, Sabitri Shrestha and Bhijraj Chapagain among others participated in the sit-in.
Gangamaya and her husband Nanda Prasad Adhikari had started a fast-unto-death demanding action against the culprits involved in the murder of their son, the 17-year-old Krishna Prasad Adhikari, 12 years back. Nanda Prasad Adhikari died two years back while still on the fast-unto-death and Gangamaya is continuing the hunger strike after that.
She has started the hunger strike at the Bir Hospital itself where she is undergoing treatment, issuing a five-day ultimatum to the government for fulfilling her demand. RSS
