National Resident Doctors Association (NRDA), the umbrella organisation of over 200 doctors pursuing their post-graduate degree at the Institute of Medicine (IoM), has decided to boycott OPD services at TU Teaching Hospital staring Monday in support of Dr Govinda KC who has been on a hunger strike for the past nine days demanding reforms in the medical education sector.

Boycotting  OPD services is part of the protest programmes that the NRDA had announced to express solidarity with Dr KC and his demands.

Over 2,500 patients are likely to get affected if the resident doctors boycott OPD services.

The NRDA, however, has said the resident doctors will not boycott ICU, in-patient and other hospital services.

In a statement issued on Monday, the NRDA said it was “forced to take such measures”.

The association has also expressed dissatisfaction at the concerned authorities for failing to take adequate measures to address Dr KC’s concerns.

“We call upon all the faculties, doctors, nursing staff, officials and stakeholders under the IoM to extent support and save Dr KC’s life,” reads a statement by the NRDA.

Dr KC’s death fast, seeking reforms in medical education and implementation of pacts reached with government in the past, entered ninth day on Monday.
