UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has underlined the need for national unity in order to address the complaints and expectations of the people.

Dahal added that the political parties should unite to implement the new constitution, give momentum to the reconstruction work and spur up development.

Addressing a press meet organised by the Dang chapter of Revolutionary journalists in Ghorahi, Dang, on Saturday, Dahal said the Nepali Congress and the Madhesi parties should be brought on board a national unity government.

The UCPN (Maoist) chair, who led a decade-long armed revolt, said his party would extend support to the commission formed to investigate into the conflict-era cases of human rights violation.

Dahal made it clear that the insurgency-era cases should be dealt with according to the principles of transitional justice.

He noted that the commission on disappearances should pay attention to creating peace in society rather than fuelling discord.
