Madhes agitation halted to infuse fresh energy: Mahanta Thakur
We are looking for solution within the territory of Nepal, however, we are being accused as a disintegrating force, says Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party leader Mahanta Thakur.
Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party Chairman Mahanta Thakur has said that the Tarai agitation has been labelled as a disintegrating move although Madhesi leaders have always wanted to seek solution to prevalent Madhes crisis within Nepali territory.
“We are seeking solution within Nepal,” Thakur said, “And Madhesi people have shown a way-out through meaningful federalism.” He was speaking at an interaction with journalists in Kathmandu on Sunday.
“The issue of Madhes is not meant to split the nation or to be easily ignored as parties in the race to gain power,” said leader Thakur. He said Madhesis have become victim of discrimination in their own land for appearing different than common Nepali. He challenged that Madhes will never take rest until their agendas of Madhesi nationality, identity and rights were fulfilled.
He went on to say that there is no alternative to a sterner protest in order to get their rights fulfilled and they were refreshing at a moment. He complained that government made no efforts to hold dialogues with them during this period.
“There was administrative terror during the protest and now the government is trying to trap us in legal and court-related issues,” said leader Thakur. “Despite the government assurance to withdraw the charges against Madhesi protestors, Madhesi people are being terrorised and humiliated.”
