Lama sworn in as CA member
Constituent Assembly Chairman Subas Nembang on Sunday administered oath of office to Lharkyal Lama who was recently appointed as UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker under the PR category.Lama was appointed to the CA on February 10 in the vacant place of Sambhu Paswan Hajari, whose CA membership was scrapped by the CA court as he was found holding the post under the PR system without resigning as the member of National Dalit Commission.
The UCPN (Maoist) decision to name Lama as their lawmaker has caused dissatisfaction within the party over his controversial background and nomination from the Madhesi quota. Madhesi leaders of the party, such as Prabhu Shah, said the appointment exposes the party’s discriminatory policy against “Madhes and Dalit community”.
Lama, who was named lawmaker from the CPN-UML in the first CA, was dragged into controversy after media brought to light his involvement in possessing multiple citizenships, passports and also in murky activities.
Meanwhile, the UCPN (Maoist) has defended Lama’s nomination stating that he has already received clean chit on the matter.
