NSU general convention in June
Nepal Students’ Union, affiliated to the ruling Nepali Congress, has decided to hold its 11th General Convention in mid-June.
The convention, which had earlier been deferred three times, has been fixed for June 12-14. An NSU Central Committee meeting on Sunday agreed to hold the convention for three days in the Capital. The jamboree, which should have been held every two years, has not been convened since 2005 owing to disputes between two factions close to party President Sushil Koirala and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba.
According to NSU President Ranjeet Karna, the convention of the Valley-based colleges will be completed by April 28 and the district convention by May 1. The conventions of 40 districts have already been held while
disputes are yet to be settled in six districts. “We are putting our efforts together to hold the convention on time,” said Karna. The NC in 2011 had formed a committee led by Karna to hold the convention within six months.
