Four members of Seven Summits Women Team of Nepal have successfully scaled the Mt Aconcagua in Argentina. 

Releasing  a press statement on Saturday, the team said that the mountaineers— Chunu Shrestha, Nimdoma Sherpa, Asha Kumari Singh and Pema Diki Sherpa— reached the summit (6,960.8 m) of the South America’s highest peak last week and marked their conquest waving the Nepali flag.

Two expedition members Maya Gurung and Shailee Basnet could not make it to the top and had to return from Plaza de Independencia at 6,400 metres after the duo was exposed to the risk of frostbite.  “We were using old mittens which was not good enough for Aconcagua,” said Basnet, also the coordinator of the expedition team.

Weather was a major challenge for the team of all-female mountaineers, who had set the target to set foot on the peak of the mountain on the 9th day of the expedition. 

Mt Aconcagua was the fifth mountain scaled by the team in their mission to conquer the highest mountains in all of the seven continents. Next they will set out to climb Mt Denali (5,500 m) in North America and Mt Vinson (4,892 m) in Antarctica. They have already reached atop Mt Kosciuszko of Australia, Mt Elbrus of Europe and Mt Everest of Asia. 

Meanwhile, the expedition members will be interacting with the students, local women, environmental organisations in South America to share their story and promote Nepal in Argentina and Brazil. The team will also celebrate the International Women’s Day in South America before heading back to Nepal.
