Nepal Police Club came back from two sets down to defeat Armed Police Force (APF) Club in the fifth set and secure their second consecutive win in women's section of the fifth National NVA Club League Women's and Men's Volleyball Championship on Saturday.
At the NSC covered hall in Tripureshwor, APF were comfortable in their 25-20 first set victory. Police found a way in the game in the second set pushing the match into a tie-breaker after the score locked at 24-24. But a clever placing by national team member Saraswati Chaudhary put the battle to bed as APF claimed the set 32-28 to take a 2-0 lead.
Police were careful in the third set determined to save the match, especially at defence and led the set 14-6. However, APF fought back to level the score at 22-22. But mistakes from Hira KC and Chaudhary gave Police the hope for a comeback after claiming the set 23-25.
"We were poor in receive and spike in the first and second sets. But we had hopes we could make a comeback if we saved the third set," said Police captain Kopila Uprety, who is in the twilight of her volleyball career.
"The third set win boosted our play," added the 38-year old former national player.
APF led the fourth set from early on. But Police levelled the score halfway. After the scored tied at 19-19, Police earned five points in a row to lead 19-23 with a more cautious approach, disabling the APF attack and pushed the match into decider claiming the set 23-25.
The boosted Police then claimed the fifth set 11-15 to complete a remarkable comeback win. The victory gave Police two points while APF, who succumbed to their first defeat, collected one point.
Police, who defeated Bharatpur Metro Khelkud on Friday, have four points. APF, the winners against Dhorpatan Sports Club, also have four points.
In other women's actions of the day, Army demolished Dhorpatan 25-12, 25-0, 25-4 to accumulate five points from two matches. They had defeated Hongwanji New Diamond Sports Club in the fifth set on Friday.
Also, New Diamond defeated Bharatpur 25-12, 25-7, 25-17.
In men's action, Tip Top Help Nepal Sports Club romped to second straight victory beating Manimukunda Volleyball Club 25-15, 25-16, 29-27 and collected six points. Manimukunda are winless after three games.
Likewise, departmental team APF defeated Nayabazar Samajik Yuwa Club 25-12, 25-16, 25-16 to register their third straight victory. APF have nine points. Nayabazar are yet to win a match.
