Manchester United, baffled after being knocked out of the Europa League at the hands of Liverpool, travel to their city rivals Manchester City in the 171st Manchester derby at the Etihad stadium on Sunday.
With Leicester and Arsenal both winning on Saturday, Manchester City are 15 points adrift of leaders Leicester, although Leicester have played two games more. A united side, lagging in confidence and momentum, would be aiming to win the match to give them any hopes of qualifying for the Champions League after West Ham dropped points against Chelsea on Saturday. The derby is perfectly poised to become a tussle for securing a place in the top four for both the sides.
The battle for relegation grows enormous as 19th placed Newcastle United host 18th placed Sunderland in one of the most significant Tyne-Wear derbies of all time. A win for either of the sides could mean survival as the League gears up towards its concluding stages.
Tottenham would be in huge pressure after Leicester’s victory against Crystal Palace as they host Bournemouth in a must-win match to keep alive their chance of winning the league. Tottenham sit eight points behind Leicester and slipping points tonight would be beyond contemplation for them.
Southampton host Liverpool in another crucial tie for the spot in next season’s Champions League. Both the teams are seven points adrift of fourth placed Manchester City and both of them would be vying for a win to keep their Champions League hope alive.
