Army clinch men’s team event
Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) won the men’s team event gold medal during the second day of the National Open Table Tennis Championships here on Wednesday.
Held at the Lainchaur National TT Training Centre, TAC fought off the challenge from Nepal Police Club to win the title match in five sets 3-2. Lalitpur and Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club shared the third place. NPC had clinched the women’s team gold medal on Tuesday.
Adarsha Vidya Mandir (AVM) clean swept the boys’ and girls’ team championships. Proxima Academy finished second and Swarnim third in the boys’ team event, while Kantipur English School ended up second and Whitefield third in the girls’ team event. The tournament is being organised to raise fund to help table tennis players, who were affected by the April 25 earthquake.
AVM’s Dikshya Tamang and Lastha Maharjan, meanwhile, set the girls’ singles title clash. Tamang rallied from a set down to beat Sukriti Shrestha of Rupandehi 9-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-5, while Maharjan dispatched AVM’s Sikka Suwal 11-7, 11-9, 8-11, 11-5.
Shyantu Shrestha of Nobel Academy made it to the boys’ singles final with a 11-6, 11-9, 12-10 win over Ashish Sharma of AVM. Shrestha will play for the championship with the winner of the other semi-finals between Ritiz Joshi and Ghanashyam Sharma.
