Biratnagar open with victory
Region No 1 Biratnagar opened their Wai Wai U-16 Girls’ National Cricket Tournament with a crushing 85-run victory over Region No 8 Pokhara at the Hariwan grounds on Friday.
In the Group ‘B’ match, Biratnagar scored 128-6 in 20 overs before Apsari Begam picked up four wickets to skittle out Pokhara for 43 runs in 10.1 overs. Nima Tamang and Sita Prasai also took two wickets each for Biratnagar.
Rejika Bhandari (14) was the only Pokhara batswoman to make runs in double figures. Begam returned the figures of 4-11. Earlier, Prasai also shone with the bat, making a 33-ball 36. Tamang also chipped in with valuable 22 runs for the winners.
In an inconsequential Group ‘A’ game, Region No 4 Bhairahawa hammered Region No 2 Birgunj by nine wickets to sign off with their only win. Both teams were already out with Birgunj finishing winless. Region No 7 Janakpur and Region No 9 Dhangadi are in the semi-finals from the pool.
Bhairahawa restricted Birgunj to 82-9 before reaching 83-1 with 54 balls to spare. Mahima Rana top scored with a 35-ball 25 not out for Bhairahawa. Manisha Rana (nine) and Salina Adhikari (eight not out) were other scorers for them.
Earlier, Aarati Koirala bowled a tight spell of 3-8 from 3.5 overs for Bhairahawa. Divyani Karna posted a match-high 39 off 48 with six hits to the fence for Birgunj.
