KMG lift Media Cup
Kantipur Media Group (KMG) ‘Blue’ clinched the seventh Media Cup football tournament here at the Dashrath Stadium on Sunday.
A solitary goal from Madhav Chaulagain helped KMG ‘Blue’ defeat Terai Television (TTV) 1-0. KMG ‘Blue’ walked away with a purse of Rs 50,000 while runners-up TTV received Rs 25,000.
Chaulagain scored in the 55th minute which ultimately turned out to be the decider. KMG ‘Blue’ had earlier beaten TTV 2-1 in the group stage.
KMG ‘Blue’ also claimed the highest scorer and best player awards. Sandesh Katwal, who scored a total of eight goals from three matches including a double hat-trick in the semi-finals, finished with top scorer while Shanta Kumar Shrestha was adjudged the best player of the tournament.
Surya Narayan Chaudhary of TTV was named the best goalkeeper while Annapurna Post were named the most disciplined team. All four individual award winners were rewarded with Rs 5,000 each. In all, 12 teams including two from KMG teams—Blue and Red—took part in the tournament organised by Nepal Olympic Museum.
