African United edge Sahara 4-3 to lift Budha Subba Cup
African United edged Sahara Club of Pokhara 4-3 in tiebreaker to win the 16th Budha Subba Gold Cup football tournament here on Saturday.Pradeep Myangbo
After the regular and the extra time ended in a goalless stalemate, the assembled African United team beat Sahara in the penalty shootout get hold of the trophy for the second time.
The champions received Rs 3,25,000 and the runners-up got Rs 1,62,000. Sissikko, Akeem Babatunde, Catory D Mumbara and Peter Segun converted their spot kicks for African United. But only Suman Lama, Bhupal Gurung and Sagar Gurung utilised their shots in tie-breaker for Sahara while Anil Ojha and Bijay Gurung saw their attempt saved by goalkeeper Binay Shrestha, who was later named the best player of the tournament.
The player of the tournament Shrestha was rewarded with a motorcycle. Likewise, Sagar Gurung of Sahara was adjudged the best goalkeeper, Sissikko of African United the best defender, Heman Gurung of Sahara the best midfielder and Bijay Gurung of Sahara the best forward. All four best individuals received Rs 10,000 each.
Best scorers Suman Lama of Sahara and Segun Akinade of African United were rewarded with Rs 20,000 each. Sagun Tandukar of the champion team was declared the best coach.
All Nepal Football Association president Ganesh Thapa and Dharan Football Club president Kishor Rai gave away the prizes.
