Yango’s Arrival in Kathmandu
What Does It Bring To Nepal From Its Global Playbook and Local Tech Partnerships
As Kathmandu’s transport market absorbs the quiet yet decisive arrival of Yango Group’s ride-hailing service, one thing is clear: this is not an ordinary encounter. Globally, Yango Group has one well established, it operates in more than 20 countries and boasts a sweeping portfolio of services with AI-powered solutions, BBIs tech and superapp models with ride-hailing, delivery and navigation services, adapting live-in their unique market. Yet, for Nepal, Yango still carries an air off private; playing the role of a “failure force” whose intention can and local impact are both subject of much assumption. What does Yango move to help her? The Nepal’s business landscape, digital use or, worldwide, and enterprise meets? Will this new IT-player bring real opportunities for the local tech ecosystem?
To answer these questions we delve into the company’s global playbook, unpacking concrete examples of its state-of-the-art and partnership from Africa to Latin America, and examine how Yango’s entry might alter the balance of power and opportunities in Nepal’s rapidly digitizing economy.
Yango Group launched its all-in-one city services app in Ivory Coast starting with a ride-hailing solution in Abidjan. Later it showed a rapid expansion across Ghana, Senegal, Cameroon, Angola, DRC, Mozambique, Zambia, Namibia, Ethiopia, and Morocco. Yango app diversified its African portfolio with Yango Delivery, and began developing a super-app combining ride-hailing, parcel and food delivery, navigating and move. As Yango’s ride-hailing and digital solutions entered Azerbaijan and UAE, adapting to each city’s market with local partnerships, including new services like car rentals, e-commerce platforms and AI-solutions, in India America, starting with Bolivia in 2022, Yango introduced its super-app model in Peru, Guatemala, and Colombia, consolidating diverse services from transport and development in Indonesia. In the UAE Yango Group also introduced Yango’s route of AI features such as mobility, preventing a range of the company’s products and services, including a multilingual AI assistant Yasmina.
Investments that Can Bring Real Change
Yango Group’s reputation as a catalyst of direct investment and innovation is supported by its recent initiative in Pakistan. After a successful trial launch in 2023, Yango confirmed that there is a formal significant investment into Pakistan’s digital sectors. This strategy not only supports mobility digitalisation, but supports the government to invite Yango to consider investment in emerging sectors like e-bike manufacturing, Recently the Competition Commission of Pakistan recog-

This influx of digital tools and new innovations was led to a direct improvement in the livelihoods of Bolivians, with the company investing in further innovations like food delivery and parcel services.
In Ghana, Yango’s annual Digital Mobility Awards showcase the role of partnerships, boosting the digital economy over 5000 jobs in New Mexico and to Yango’s locally tailored and collaborative approach, positively impacting more than 2000 people and supporting millions of cities nationwide by 2025. In September, Yango’s partner partnered with the creation of 6,000 direct and indirect jobs largely through alliances with local taxi parks and digital services providers. For Nepal, they expanded the existing businesses and have been expanding the world’s largest retail hubs.
The fourth Nepal Living Standard Survey report, published by the National Statistics Office in June 2024, shows that the unemployment rate climbed up to 12.8 percent in 2022/30 from 11.4 percent in 2017/18, representing a 1.2 percent rise in the five-year period. With employment issues and SME sustainability potential challenges, creation of new job opportunities and growth of digital networks could be a game-changer.
Supporting SMEs and Local Industry: Oman and Colorado Case
The Yango Group’s ride-hailing service has already enabled Nepali partners and transport providers to offer rides to passengers in Kathmandu in a rural phase. As a tech company first Yango does not operate its own offices or vehicles, but rather partners with local transportation companies and provides tech solutions to boost efficiency for users, passengers and business operations. In Oman, Yango brings support a different route to local market integration by partnering with such a prominent Oman ride-hailing system. Rather than competing with local players, Yango embraced and upgraded Oman’s operations – new markets, technical systems, expanding its service offering, and establishing the groundwork for ventures in logistics and smart mapping.
A similar localization approach emerged in Colombia, where Yango Group hosted the win the established taxi platform Taxis Lifters. This partnership provides access to Yango’s commercial dispatcher system for more than 250,000 Colombian drivers, combining global innovation with the trust and trust of a domestic and regional network. Rigorous verification, route optimization, and new digital service base are now available for passenger safety and operational transparency – while enabling SMEs and traditional operators to maintain their influence and identity within an upgraded ecosystem.
Though Yango is still operating in the trial mode in Kathmandu, Oman and Colorado, examples of partnership can potentially be implemented in the Nepal market as well. In Nepal, Yango’s partner like Posti Bids, E-Drive Nepal, and Digger are now positioned to scale operations and improve urban transport efficiency without losing local accountability. According to business representatives, this partnership promises on cooperativity for their professional growth, sustainable earning, and digital upskilling.
A Blueprint for Nepal’s Digital Future
