A 42-year-old man was arrested in Khotang on charge of murdering his father.

Tikaram Rai was taken into police custody on Thursday for allegedly assaulting his 71-year-old father Krishna Kumar Rai to death following an argument.

The funeral rights of the victim were performed at around 10 am on Monday after the accused told his neighbours that Krishna Kumar had passed away in his sleep.

However, the accused was arrested on Thursday after his younger brother Nabin Kumar Rai filed a police complaint claiming that the incident was suspicious since he had not been informed of their father’s death and accused Tikaram of committing the crime.

The victim’s body was exhumed and sent to the Diktel Hospital for postmortem.

Tikaram’s remand has been extended by three days for further investigation.
