Scuffle between inmates in Sankhuwasabha prison leaves two dead

Two people died following a scuffle between inmates in the Sankhuwasabha district jail on Wednesday.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Birendra Godar of the District Police Office, Akash Balami, serving a sentence in a theft case, and Binod Tolange, who was serving a sentence for rape, died on Wednesday after a fight broke out inside the prison.
The duo were caught by prison administration officials while trying to escape the facility by cutting the window of the prison toilet and were detained inside the prison. Soon after their detainment, a scuffle broke out between the inmates resulting in their deaths.
The victims were found unresponsive in the prison cell at around 4am.
Seven other inmates have been taken into police custody to investigate the incident.
A three-member committee, under the coordination of Assistant Chief District Officer Mohanmani Ghimire, has also been formed to carry out the investigation.
Authorities are yet to determine the reason behind the scuffle and further investigation regarding the incident is underway, said Godar.
