Bad weather disrupts domestic flights from Kathmandu

Adverse weather has disrupted domestic flights from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, with rain and poor flying conditions affecting several destinations and flight routes.
International flights, however, have continued to operate normally, with no cancellations or diversions due to weather.
Changing weather in Kathmandu, along with rain in destinations such as Pokhara, Bharatpur and Lukla, has made it difficult for airlines to operate flights on schedule.
An airport official said weather conditions in Kathmandu had been fluctuating, with visibility and flying conditions improving and deteriorating intermittently. Some domestic flights have been affected by rain and poor weather at their destinations and along their routes.
Visibility at Tribhuvan International Airport was recorded at 3,000 metres at 8:34am on Saturday. The airport has introduced Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) because of the adverse weather.
Around 150 domestic departures and arrivals were scheduled at the airport on Saturday, but weather conditions continued to affect flight schedules, the official said.
Flights to and from Lukla remained suspended on Saturday because of poor weather. Services to the mountain airport were also disrupted on Friday after bad conditions developed along flight routes.
Domestic flights are being operated based on prevailing weather conditions, according to airport officials.
