Nepali Army rescues 2,697 people from flood-hit Rasuwa
More than 8,300 troops are deployed in affected districts as rescue efforts continue, while heavy rain temporarily halts work to locate the entrance to a hydropower tunnel. The Nepali Army has rescued 2,697 people affected by flooding in Rasuwa district as of 7am on Sunday, using helicopters and ground teams.
A total of 2,497 people, including 216 foreign nationals, were evacuated by air from Timure, Syabrubesi, Dhunche and Mailung. The foreign nationals rescued include 121 Indians, 72 Chinese, 15 South Koreans, four Germans, two Americans, two Italians and one Omani. Ground teams rescued another 200 people, said the Nepali Army.
More than 8,300 Nepali Army personnel have been deployed across affected districts and are working in coordination with other agencies.
Meanwhile, efforts to locate the entrance to the 3A tunnel of the Trishuli Hydropower Project were temporarily halted after heavy rainfall from around 2am caused water levels to rise and flooded excavation areas.
