BP Highway reopens after diversion repairs in Kavre
Traffic resumes after repairs to flood-damaged temporary diversions along the Bhakunde–Nepalthok section.Jyoti Shrestha
The BP Highway, which had been blocked due to rainfall, resumed operation on Thursday after repairs to damaged diversions.
Continuous rainfall over the past few days had washed away diversions built at several points along the Bhakunde–Nepalthok stretch of the highway.
Traffic resumed from 8:30 am on Thursday after the diversions were repaired, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabin Bista.
The Katunje Besi–Nepalthok section of the highway was severely damaged by floods in the Roshi river in September 2024. Vehicles have since been operating through temporary diversions while reconstruction work continues.
However, fresh flooding triggered by recent rainfall swept away the diversions, leaving the highway completely obstructed since Monday.
Meanwhile, the Kavre District Administration Office has imposed a daily 12-hour restriction on vehicular movement along the highway from 5 pm to 5 am starting Tuesday.
