One killed, seven injured in Lamjung jeep accident

A jeep accident in Lamjung district on Wednesday morning killed one person and injured seven others.
The jeep was travelling from Bhujung of Kwholasothar Rural Municipality-4 to the district headquarters Besisahar via Muchegaun when it met with the accident at Siddhathan forest in ward 9 of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality at around 10 am.
Seventy-four-year-old Malakumari Gurung of Bhujung died during treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Besisahar, said Inspector Abhishek Pandey of the District Police Office, Lamjung.
The injured include the deceased woman’s 80-year-old husband Aitram Gurung, who is in critical condition, 50-year-old Kali Gurung, 27-year-old Smriti Gurung, 22-year-old Elina Gurung, 31-year-old Aryan Gurung of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-9, and 22-year-old Ritu Gurung and 20-year-old Kripa Gurung of Besisahar Municipality-5.
Inspector Pandey said one of the injured is in serious condition while three others are in moderate condition. Aitram, Kali, Aryan and Smriti are being prepared for referral to another health facility for further treatment.
Police said the jeep slipped while attempting to turn at a bend and fell around 50 to 60 metres off the road. The driver has been taken into police custody for investigation.
