80 more Nepalis deported from the US arrive in Kathmandu
The number of Nepalis deported by the US since January 2024 has reached 543.Post Report
An additional 80 Nepali nationals have been deported from the United States and arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday, the department of immigration confirmed.
Ramchandra Tiwari, director general of the department, said that the 80 people including 79 men and one woman arrived in Kathmandu. They were brought to Kathmandu on a chartered aircraft arranged by the US authorities.
Since Donald Trump assumed the US presidency, a total of 543 Nepalis have been deported from the United States, Tiwari said. He added that those who arrived were questioned and later released by the authorities.
The Human Trafficking Control Bureau of Nepal Police also carried out separate questioning and documentation before allowing the deportees to leave.
The department said that the reasons for deportation included lack of valid documents, overstaying visas, and violations of immigration laws.
