Newly appointed minister for information and communication, Jagdish Kharel, has condemned the recent arson and vandalism at the Kantipur Publications office in Kathmandu, calling it “an attack on the entire media sector.”
Inspecting the damaged premises in Tinkune on Tuesday, following the September 9 demonstrations that escalated into violence, Kharel expressed his regret over the destruction caused to the publication.
He assured that those involved in the attacks would be brought to justice through an impartial investigation. “We will make every effort to ensure the culprits face legal action,” Kharel said.
The minister also noted that, recognising the scale of human and material losses across the country, the government had already formed an inquiry commission at the initiative of the prime minister.
He added that the vandalism and arson incidents would be thoroughly investigated.
