The remains of a man missing for more than two months were discovered in Gulmi Darbar Rural Municipality, Gulmi, after a dog was seen carrying his skull.
On Monday, the dog was seen with a human skull in its mouth in ward 6 of the municipality. Local ward representative Sundar Kunwar reported the incident to the police.
A police team identified the remains as those of 55-year-old Ratan Shahi, who had been missing for over two months. Authorities later recovered additional body parts and Shahi’s clothing on Tuesday during a joint search by locals and police in a nearby community forest.
Shahi, who lived alone and had no immediate family, is believed to have fallen while collecting fodder, leading to his death, according to local ward chair Mukesh Thapa.
The identification was confirmed by neighbours through the victim’s clothing. A seven-member police team led by Police Inspector Bhupendra Thapa is investigating the incident.
