Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba has directed Nepal’s diplomatic mission chiefs worldwide to prioritise national interests and economic diplomacy. Addressing the chiefs virtually from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, Deuba emphasised the importance of fostering foreign investment and promoting Nepal's economic potential globally.
She instructed Nepali missions to attach priority to the promotion of economic diplomacy and protection of Nepali migrant workers, said the ministry. The Minister emphasised efficient service delivery and engagement with Nepali diaspora for the development of the country.
“Economic diplomacy is an integral part of Nepal’s foreign policy. Focus on exploring areas that attract investment and contribute to Nepal's aspirations for development and economic growth,” she urged.
According to a press note issued by her secretariat, Deuba encouraged missions to identify opportunities in their host countries and leverage them for Nepal’s benefit, emphasising the promotion of Nepali products and tourism in global markets. Highlighting Nepal’s vulnerability to climate change, she called for global advocacy for climate justice and urged active participation in the upcoming Sagarmatha Dialogue.
She also stressed the need to establish stronger ties with foreign governments and private sectors, aligning their policies with Nepal’s interests.
Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai echoed her, urging missions to safeguard the rights and interests of the Nepali diaspora, particularly those engaged in foreign employment.
