Nawalparasi East
Traffic along the East-West Highway has been halted following the collapse of the Binayi Khola bridge near Dumkibas, Nawalparasi East.
According to the Area Police Office, Dumkibas, the bridge gave way on Friday at 5:30pm due to the excessive weight of an Indian freight lorry.
Police Inspector Rajan Timilsina said the dilapidated bridge buckled under the lorry’s heavy load.
Vehicular movement along the highway will be halted until a diversion is constructed, police said.
Vehicles have been stopped at Daunne, Arun Khola, and Bardaghat to avoid congestion.
Police said the bridge is the longest in the area, and moving the stranded lorry has become challenging.
