All eight local units in Jumla, including one municipality, have been declared literate after fulfilling most of the 12 literacy indicators. This milestone paves the way for Jumla to be officially recognised as a fully literate district.
Gaurinanda Acharya, chief of the District Coordination Committee, said the delayed literacy declarations of Tila and Guthichaur rural municipalities had been the final hurdle in achieving the milestone.
“With intensive efforts and data collection at the community level, Jumla now qualifies for the literate district status, marking a significant step forward in its educational progress,” Acharya said.
According to data, Chandannath Municipality has the highest literacy rate of 98.91 percent, while Tila Rural Municipality has the lowest with 95.4 percent.
