Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh departed for Cairo, Egypt, on Sunday to lead Nepal’s delegation at the World Urban Forum (WUF).
Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey bid him farewell at Tribhuvan International Airport.
Singh, representing Nepal at the high-level forum, joins officials from over 150 countries, primarily ministers responsible for urban development.
According to the Ministry of Urban Development, Singh will address three sessions, highlighting Nepal’s challenges in settlement development, the impacts of climate change, and progress in habitat development.
The World Urban Forum, convened by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), will be held from November 4-8 in Cairo under the theme, “It All Starts at Home: Local Actions for Sustainable Cities and Communities.”
Established in 2001 to address rapid urbanisation, the WUF is a key platform for discussing urbanisation’s effects on communities, cities, economies, and policies.
Representatives from national, regional, and local governments, academia, business, urban planning, and civil society will attend the forum, co-organised by the government of Egypt.
Deputy Prime Minister Singh and his delegation will return on November 9.
