Indian embassy celebrates International Day of Yoga with nationwide events

The Embassy of India in Kathmandu and the Consulate General of India in Birgunj organised a series of events in ten places to celebrate the International Day of Yoga.
According to the embassy, the events were organised in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Lamjung, Lumbini, Janakpur, Chitwan, Birgunj, Hetauda, Gaur, and Pokhariya.
In keeping with this year’s theme of “Yoga for Self and Society”, the embassy held two curtain-raiser events, including a yoga demonstration at Pashupatinath Temple and a lecture-cum-demonstration for the girls staying at Maiti Nepal on June 7.
On 19 June, the embassy organised a Yoga and meditation practice for more than 450 participants on the banks of Phewa Lake in Pokhara. On the same day, the embassy also organised a yoga demonstration and free health consultation with Ayurvedic practitioners, focussing on the health benefits of yoga and Ayurveda,
The embassy held yoga demonstrations at three iconic landmarks of Pokhara on Thursday and a large-scale demonstration for more than 900 participants at the Lumbini Development Trust, Lumbini, the same day.
In a statement, the embassy said a mega yoga demonstration event was organised at Pokhara Stadium on Friday. Over 5,000 yoga enthusiasts, including Gandaki Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey, attended the event.
The Consulate General of India also organised International Day of Yoga events in Janakpur, Chitwan, Birgunj, Hetauda, Gaur and Pokhariya.
To wrap up the celebration of the 10th edition of the International Day of Yoga, the embassy will be organising a yoga demonstration event in Lamjung district on Saturday.
The embassy is committed to encouraging people-to-people and cultural exchanges with Nepal based on the shared interest in Yoga and holistic health practices, reads the statement.
