Dahal seeks main opposition’s support to move forward pending bills

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss various issues including pending bills that have been tabled at the House of Representatives.
According to Govinda Acharya, press advisor to the prime minister, the two leaders discussed the ruling and opposition parties working together to move ahead with Enforced Disappearances Enquiry, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act amendment bill.
The government had registered the Act on Commission on Investigation of Disappeared Persons, Truth and Reconciliation, 2071 [TRC] (Third Amendment) in Parliament.
Prime Minister Dahal, during the meeting, urged Oli for help in moving the bill forward.
Acharya informed that the two leaders held discussion on various issues including how to move ahead the TRC bill and other bills that have been tabled in the Parliament.
“The Prime Minister had called UML Chair Oli to discuss current issues. They held discussions regarding the pending bills in the parliament including the TRC amendment bill,” said Acharya.
The truth commission has received 63,792 complaints since its formation in February 2015 while the disappearance commission, in its docket, has 3,223 complaints of enforced disappearances allegedly orchestrated by state security forces and the Maoists. After a preliminary investigation, the commission has identified 2,484 cases as genuine.
