Tirthamali Pun, mother of CPN (Maoist Centre) Deputy Secretary General Barshaman Pun, has been injured after sustaining a gunshot wound on her left foot.

The incident took place late at night on Friday after a bullet was fired allegedly accidentally from the pistol carried by Assistant Head Constable Prakash Pun, police said.

The injured, who sustained an injury on her left leg, has been admitted to the National Trauma Centre in Sundhara for treatment.

Police suspect that the bullet was fired ‘accidentally’.

Prakash Pun was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and had tried fleeing from the scene following the incident. He was arrested on Saturday morning.

The accused had reached Tirthamaya’s Gairidhara-based residence to celebrate Nepali new year on Friday.

Previously, Prakash used to live at the same house as Tirthamaya, where the latter lived with her sons David Pun and Pranish Pun. Prakash had recently moved to a different place to live separately, police said.
