Former King Gyanendra Shah on Saturday said political parties and monarchy should come together to save the country.
“Political parties, which are indispensable for democracy, and the monarchy with a patriotic historical heritage, should not hesitate to cooperate with mutual trust to save the country,” the former King said in a statement issued on the eve of the National Democracy Day.
The deposed King expressed his concern saying that the country’s long-term peace, stability, international respect and sovereignty are being eroded.
Shah said the country is now caught in the grip of misrule, corruption, depressing economic stagnation and social injustice.
Shah said he can no longer remain silent.
“It is the tradition and culture of our clan to accept the decision of the overwhelming majority of the people of Nepal. Even in the most adverse moments, we did not lose our temperance and patriotism and did not leave the country. But we can no longer remain silent about the continuous downfall of the country,” Shah said.
